What is MagMatrix New Sulfate MgO Non-Combustible Exterior Wall Sheathing?
Jinpeng Group MagMatrix's new sulfate Magnesium Oxide sheathing is a cementitious panel made from magnesium oxide (MgO) with food-grade sulfate liquid by the air-hardening curing process plus reinforced with glass fiber mesh and other additives for enhanced performance. It is an alternative to traditional materials like gypsum and cement boards in fire-rated assemblies.
The sheathing is non-combustible and meets ASTM E136 / CAN/ULC-S114 standards for fire resistance, making it an ideal choice for buildings that require extra protection against fire hazards, with the ASTM E136 noncombustible grade to meet with the IBC & IRC building code of the noncombustible exterior fire-rated with structurally & shear wall ability to serve as the fire-rated exterior sheathing for the type I II III where demand noncombustible sheathing panel. The product naturally resists the growth of mold and mildew, providing an added layer of protection against moisture damage.
Key Benefits of our Noncombustible Exterior Sheathing
Fire Resistance:
MagMatrix brand new sulfate MgO boards are inherently non-combustible and can achieve fire ratings of up to 4 hours in specific assemblies. It could also cut off the fire-rated gypsum layers for the steel stud for the 1-2 hours of fire-rated exterior wall assembly.
Compliant with stringent fire safety standards, including ASTM E136 (Non-Combustibility Test) and ASTM E119 (Fire Endurance).
Moisture Resistance:
Naturally resistant to moisture, mold, and mildew.
Unlike gypsum, it doesn’t degrade in high-humidity environments.
Structural Performance:
Provides excellent strength and impact resistance for structural sheathing and shear walls.
Reinforced with glass fiber mesh for improved dimensional stability and reduced cracking.
Durability:
Resistant to pests, rot, and extreme weather conditions. The sheathing is designed to provide exceptional moisture resistance, essential for protecting the integrity of the building envelope. The new BMSC 517 formulation makes the sheathing provide a barrier against moisture infiltration naturally and breathable, helping to prevent damage to the framing and insulation. This feature also helps to improve indoor air quality by preventing the growth of mold and mildew.
Low expansion and contraction compared to wood-based materials.
Offer 12 months of outdoor exposure.
Eco-Friendly:
Made from abundant, natural magnesium oxide with a low carbon footprint.
Free from toxic substances like formaldehyde, silica, and asbestos.
Compatibility:
Works well with various cladding systems (e.g., fiber cement, stone veneer, or rain-screen). The sheathing is designed for exterior wall applications, providing a strong and durable surface for finishing materials such as stucco, brick, and siding.
Can integrate with continuous insulation systems like exterior structural insulation sheathing for added thermal efficiency. The sheathing is lightweight and easy to handle, making it easy to transport and install. It is also available in various sizes and thicknesses to meet the specific needs of any construction or renovation project.
Applications
Exterior wall assemblies for Type I, II, III, and IV construction.
Fire-rated walls for multifamily, commercial, and industrial buildings.
Substrate for rain-screen cladding systems and direct-applied finishes.
Coastal and humid regions where moisture resistance is critical.
